What is Biokinetics?
The term ‘Biokinetics’ comes from the words ‘bio’ meaning ‘life’ & ‘kinetics’ meaning ‘movement’ – together meaning ‘Life through Movement.’
Biokinetics is a healthcare profession centred around improving and maintaining physical function, final phase rehabilitation and overall well-being, by means of scientifically-based exercise prescriptions. We work closely with individuals recovering from injuries, managing chronic conditions, or looking to prevent future issues through guided physical activity.
A biokineticists primary function is to improve physical functioning and health care through exercise as a modality. We are trained to assess posture, movement, muscle imbalances and endurance to exercise and design individualized exercise programs tailored to each patients specific needs.

Biokinetic Therapy
Biokinetics can be defined as the science of movement and the application of exercise in rehabilitative treatment and performance. We concern ourselves with the promotion of health, maintenance of physical abilities and final phase rehabilitation by means of scientifically-based physical activity programme prescription, whether it be land-based or water-based.

Aquatic Therapy
Aquatic therapy refers to treatments and exercises performed in water for physical rehabilitation, fitness and other therapeutic benefits. Fish & Field are qualified biokineticists with a special interest in aqua therapy, offering undivided attention and constant attendance to each person receiving treatment in a heated therapy pool. Techniques used include Bad Ragaz, Watsu, and Halliwick.

Medical Aid Wellness Assessments
Fish and Field Biokineticists are registered to perform medical aid wellness assessments, and offer this service to Discovery Vitality clients. These are quick and easy tests that will give you an understanding of your current fitness level and indicate which areas you need to focus on for optimum health and wellness.

Group Classes
Fish and Field Biokinetics offers group classes designed to improve strength, mobility, and overall functional movement in a supportive and energizing environment. Led by registered biokineticists, these classes are tailored to accommodate different fitness levels and physical needs - making them ideal for injury prevention and rehabilitation.

Cardiac Rehabilitation
Cardiac rehabilitation is a supervised program designed to improve the health and well-being of individuals with heart conditions. These programs include exercise training and education on heart-healthy living, helping you return to a more active, confident lifestyle.
Chronic Conditions
A chronic condition can be defined as any health condition lasting 3 months or more, often accompanied by long lasting symptoms and requiring ongoing medical attention. Examples include diabetes, obesity, arthritis and osteoporosis."
Neurological Conditions
A neurological disorder is any disorder of the body’s nervous system. Structural, biochemical or electrical abnormalities in the brain, spinal cord or nerves can result in a range of symptoms, including those associated with Parkinsons, Motor Neuron Disease, Strokes, Spinal Injuries, etc.
Orthopaedic Rehabilitation
Orthopaedic conditions involve muscles, ligaments and joints. These can range from ailments, injuries or diseases to joint replacements and fusions. Orthopaedic conditions can often present as joint pain, whiplash, dislocations or torn cartilage.
Paediatric Conditions
A paediatric disorder is any medical, developmental, or physiological condition that affects children. These could either be congenital or acquired during early development.
Prenatal Exercise
Exercise during pregnancy is important and the perfect path to faster postpartum weight loss and recovery. Prenatal aqua therapy is a safe medium for normal and many high risk pregnancies, and includes benefits such as reduced back pain, less edema and reduced risk of postpartum depression.
