FAQ's
When should I see a Biokineticist?
Biokinetics is for anyone – regardless of age or fitness level. We treat a wide range of conditions, including orthopedic injuries, chronic diseases, neurological conditions, and general wellness. Whether you’re recovering from an injury, managing a chronic condition, or just looking to improve your movement, we can help.
What should I expect from my first visit?
Your first session will be an initial consultation lasting approximately 60 minutes, where we conduct a comprehensive assessment. This includes reviewing your medical history and performing a physical evaluation to determine the nature and extent of your injury. The evaluation may assess your range of motion, flexibility, strength, and movement, helping us understand your current level of function. Based on these findings, we will develop a personalized rehabilitation program tailored to your needs and goals.
What should I wear & bring along to my first visit?
Bring any relevant medical reports, including X-rays, MRIs, or scans, should you have them. If you’re on any medication, bring a list of what you’re currently taking. Should you wish to claim from medical aid, ensure you have your medical aid details with you. Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily for the assessment.
Are you medical aid contracted?
Our rates are in line with current medical aid scheme rates. Depending on your medical aid plan and available funds, you may be able to claim for these sessions. We encourage you to check with your medical aid provider before attending to confirm if your plan covers Biokinetics treatment. Please note that Biokinetics sessions do not fall under PMB benefits.
Do I have to have a referral to see you?
No, you do not need a referral to see a Biokineticist. If you’re unsure whether Biokinetics is right for you, feel free to give us a call, and we can advise you on the best place to start.
How often do I need to come to Biokinetics?
The frequency of your sessions depends on your individual needs and availability. After your initial consultation, we will recommend the duration and frequency of sessions. The length of treatment varies based on the nature and severity of your condition or injury. We offer 30 minute, 45 minute and 60 minute sessions. If frequent visits aren’t possible, home programs or alternative therapies may be suggested.
Do I have to be able to swim for the pool work?
No, you do not need to know how to swim. Our Biokineticists are experienced and confident in the water, and we can assist those who are hesitant. The pools are shallow enough for you to stand, and we will be in the water with you at all times if needed.
